ROBOTS AND ROBOTICS
What are Robots will give you a brief introduction to robots and robotics from a young student’s perspective, thus making it easy for elementary school children to understand and be motivated to explore this area of science.
BRICKS AND PARTS GUIDE
The Bricks and Parts Guide lists out all of the parts in the LEGO WeDo and the KinderBOT kit along with how many pieces of each part are found in the kit. This document also provides some suggestions on substituting some of the pieces used in our designs with different LEGO pieces that you might have.
Each of our designs have a primary and sometimes even a secondary focus that we want students to learn and remember so as to build a strong foundation in STEM. Click through for background information on each focus.
DIFFICULTY LEVEL: The following are descriptions of the difficulty levels that we use as a guideline on the complexity of our designs based on the results of our extensive research, feedback and field testing. Keep in mind though that these are simply suggested guidelines – we encourage all users to try out all of our designs!
EASY: These designs are quick to build and have simple programming. The number of pieces used per step are few. Some examples of this level are : Mars Bug, Spinning Trolls.
MEDIUM: These designs take slightly longer to build than the easy level, since the assembly of each step is slightly more complex. The programming uses more blocks than the Easy level and in some designs there are more extensions.Some examples of this level are: Mini Martians,Battering Ram.
HARD: These designs take longer to build than the Medium level, and requires a greater attention to detail during the assembly at each step. Programming is more advanced. Some examples of this level are: Forklift, Crossbow
EXPERT: These designs have complex part assemblies and challenging building steps that require attention to detail and a lot of patience! We recommend some building experience for these designs. Some examples are: AT-AT Walker, Excavator.
